KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been appointed as the chairman of the Barisan Nasional advisory board.

Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said that with Najib’s appointment, it is hoped Barisan will regain the people’s confidence.

The Barisan secretary-general said this in a statement on Tuesday (July 9).

Earlier, Najib was seen arriving at the Umno headquarters at Menara Dato’ Onn for the Barisan supreme council meeting.

The former Umno president arrived at around 8.30pm.

The Pekan MP resigned as Umno president following Barisan’s defeat in the 14th General Election last year.

Najib is now facing trial for allegedly misappropriating RM42mil in funds belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.

Other Barisan leaders seen arriving earlier for the meeting include MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran, MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan and Wanita Umno chief Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad.
