PETALING JAYA: Traffic police will issue the maximum RM300 fine for various offences during the Ops Selamat period, says Asst Comm Zulkefly Yahya.

The Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief said among the offences are speeding, beating the red light, using the emergency lane, overtaking at double lines and using mobile phones while driving.

“If a summons is issued for any of these offences no discounts will be given.

“This is one of our ways to educate the public to be more responsible while on the roads,” he said.

ACP Zulkefly advised motorists to abide by traffic regulations and exercise caution when driving during the festive period, especially during Ops Selamat, which is conducted from May 29 until June 12.

“The most important thing is to arrive at your destination safely.

“Sufficient police personnel will be deployed in the city to ensure the safety of all,” he said.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador had previously said 4,500 personnel from the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department would be on duty throughout the campaign.

He urged motorists to be patient when driving during this festive period as jams were unavoidable.

“We are expecting between three and four million vehicles on the road throughout this period,” he had said.
