JOHOR BARU: The Johor Fire and Rescue Department has given several useful tips for those leaving their homes for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri break.
State director Datuk Yahaya Madis said house owners must have a checklist to safeguard their property when they are away.
“House, vehicle and personal management are the three things that must be a priority,” he said.
Yahaya said that before leaving their homes, they must remove gas cylinder caps and unplug all electrical items.
“All doors and windows must be closed and highly flammable items such as paper or cloth must not be near doors and windows.
“This will help lessen the chances of fire spreading quickly if a fire were to break out,” he added.
Yahaya also advised members of the public to ensure their vehicles were in tip-top condition.
“It is also advisable for car owners to have a small fire extinguisher that is easily accessible in their vehicles should a fire occur,” he added.
