PETALING JAYA: The festive joy came early for some 40 children from Rumah Charis this year.
Yesterday, they were presented with plenty of goodies and gifts, leaving everyone beaming with joy. Over and above that, several household items were given to their home.
The children were also treated to a sumptuous buffet meal and had their first theme park rides at the mall’s indoor theme park.
The event, called “A Spring of Prosperity”, was part of a corporate social responsibility initiative by Berjaya Times Square.
Jackson Pau, the coordinator of Rumah Charis, said the children, who were mostly abandoned by their parents, had a whale of a time.
“It was their first theme park rides of the year. It was good to see them so happy and thrilled by the experience of the ride,” he said.
Berjaya Times Square executive director Koh Huey Min was also present at the event.
Meanwhile, the festive mood is already in full swing at the mall.
Shoppers will be greeted at the main entrance by lifelike trees blooming with cherry blossoms and hundreds of red lanterns to usher in the Year of the Rat on Jan 25.
There have been several performances leading up to the Chinese New Year.
The God of Prosperity will be doing a walkabout in the mall and there will be a lion dance performance on the first and second days of the festival.
The celebrations, which began on Jan 8, will continue until Feb 8.
